Main Talk: Identity Transformation During Religious Exit
Many people have their identity rooted into a religious world view by their upbringing. What happens when that identity transforms into something different? Come hear some insights from Bethany Gull who has researched on this topic.
Speaker: Bethany Gull
Speaker Bio: Bethany Gull is endlessly fascinated by the study of human behavior in a social context and the impact of society on our life chances, choices, and outcomes. She holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Utah and earned her undergrad degree at UVU. Her teaching and research interests include identity, gender, religion, and collective action. Her current research centers around (non)religious identity in contemporary society. She studies the ways in which people navigate between religious and secular worldviews and how social media both facilitates and constrains identity and community development. On a personal note, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, preferably while enjoying nature or a good scary movie, or all by herself with a good book.
